We are thrilled to support new businesses as the proud sponsors of the start-up category at the Bolton Business Awards 2019. Set to take place in September, the awards are the highlight of the business calendar, recognising the achievements of companies throughout the area and championing start-ups and up-and-coming North West talent.
We opened Miller House in Farnworth, Bolton, in January this year with a £750,000 investment, which is testament to our confidence in local business. We help companies by providing them with the space and facilities they need to grow – particularly start-ups who need the extra helping hand. One such business is Pinnacle Life, which was founded in March this year and began operating in June out of our Miller House site.
Having spent several years working for companies within the financial services sector, predominantly providing life insurance products to the general public, Mark Sobey and his business partner Jonathan decided to take the leap and open their own insurance brokerage.
Pinnacle Life offers a multitude of personal protection products, including life insurance, mortgage protection, critical illness cover and other services. Working alongside a wide range of insurance providers allows Pinnacle Life to add a personal service to clients and provide professional advice either over the phone or face to face.
Mark comments: “We were attracted to Miller House as it seemed a professional environment offering clean and bright offices. The communal areas within the building are second to none and very welcoming to clients and partners who wish to visit Pinnacle Life.
“The prices for the size of office space we required were very reasonable and fully serviced. The locality of the Bolton area was predominantly chosen for its ease of access for our staff. Even though our client base spans the whole of the UK, Bolton is where most of our current staff were born and raised. Miller House’s location is really convenient, with excellent road links to the M60 and the rest of the North West motorway network. Farnworth train station is also within walking distance and Bolton train station is less than 3 miles away.
“Our staff love the amenities offered at Miller House, from the free tea and coffee facilities, to the on-site gym. These added extras make for a great environment and a happy workforce.
“Advice I would pass on to anyone thinking of starting their own business would be to fully understand the market they are entering. Be aware of any pitfalls which may arise during the initial stages as you need to expect some teething issues. This is all part of the experience. Have a solid business plan and stick to it. One thing I have learned in the past is try not to grow too quickly. Stay within your means and be patient. If the business model you are using is working, then the business will take its own course and grow within its own means step by step. Be patient. It’s great to know that one day, when we eventually grow, Miller House offers the flexibility to be able to adapt.”
This year marks the 14th anniversary of the Bolton Business Awards, with 15 categories including Business of the Year, Regeneration Project of the Year, Manufacturer of the Year, Customer Excellence and our very own Start-up category.
